General Motors Corporation, Worldwide Facilities
General Motors Corporation,  Worldwide Facilities Group (WFG) located in Pontiac, Michigan, requested a study for the Non-Skilled Indirect Labor Group for Willow Run Transmission. Purpose of this study was to benchmark the activities of a specific segment of the Non-Skilled Labor Group at the Willow Run Plant located at Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The study preformed physically verified their equipment inventory and the actual headcount (reported on WFG’s budget) that was assigned to work with the housekeeping group. Additionally, we determined the headcount by trade, their areas of responsibilities, actual tasks assigned and time spent on the tasks (current state).

Along with analyzing the information gathered, presented was specific recommendations to WFG on ways to optimum the manpower and to balance the workload. Recommendations for adjustments and changes were included with the specific recommendations.

A cost savings of $720,000 annually was realized by the means of the Indirect Labor Study.
